St Piran’s Day and St Piran in Penwith

St Piran’s Day, also known as the Feast of Saint Piran, is celebrated on 5th March each year. It is the National Day of Cornwall named after Saint Piran one of Cornwall’s Patron Saints who is also the patron saint of tin miners.

St Piran in Penwith celebrates the twentieth anniversary of their events this year and as always will be hosting events in Penzance supported by Penzance Council.

The first of the two events will take place on Tuesday 4th March in the form of a concert at St John’s Hall. Their combined schools choir will perform the concert at 7pm. Tickets are available on the door and are £5 for adults and £1 for children.

The annual St Piran in Penwith Furry takes place the following day. On Wednesday 5th March. At 10.15am over 500 local school children will dance from the top of Causewayhead, down into Queens Square, through Parade Street and in to Morrab Gardens. They will then sing a rousing rendition of ‘Trelawney’ before heading back up Morrab Road to St John’s Hall to enjoy some delicious saffron buns.

All children participating in the Furry will receive a St Piran Rosette, a Saffron bun and new for this year… flower headbands for the girls… in
St. Piran colours of course!

Gool Peran Lowen! (Happy St Piran’s Day!)
