Penwith Gallery has been a St Ives institution for artists and art lovers
since opening its doors in 1961.
Home of the Penwith Society of Arts (founded by such luminaries as
Dame Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson) who exhibit year-round in the Members gallery, alongside their two additional exhibition spaces showing works by some of the world’s best contemporary artists. All pieces are for sale and the gallery offers the popular OwnArt scheme, ensuring there is something for everyone’s budget.
Currently on show they have the Members Winter Exhibition in their Main Gallery, displaying a diverse mix of sculptures, ceramics, paintings, drawings, and prints from the Members of The Penwith Society of Arts.
In their New Gallery you can find the Associates Winter Exhibition, consisting of a wide and eclectic variety of work from newcomers and established artists alike. Alongside this, in the Studio Gallery, they have a vibrant solo show by Teresa Pemberton, her lively use of colour, and energetic, painterly style is a welcome feast for the eyes at this time of year.
An extra delight on show in The Hepworth Room, is a display of Denis Mitchell Christmas cards, a collection of 42 original cards created by abstract sculptor and painter, Denis Mitchell. Many of which are signed and all of which are for sale. These shows take us through to January 6th 2024. Penwith Gallery is open 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and is free to enter. Please see their website to view each exhibition in full, and find their
