Humphry Davy Lantern Parade 2023

Penzance’s Humphry Davy Lantern Parade is back for 2023! This popular event is held in remembrance of the town’s very own Sir Humphry Davy, Penzance’s most famous son and inventor of the lifesaving Davy Lamp. The event will commence at 4.30pm at the top of Causewayhead, Penzance on Saturday 16th December.

Humphry Davy School accompanied the Mayor of Penzance and local musicians will lead the procession. The parade will consist of an array of
homemade lanterns, which have been created by local school children with the help of local artists at workshops arranged by Penzance BID, as well as lanterns created at a community workshop kindly hosted by the Jubilee Pool last month.

Keep an eye out for the giant Humphry Davy lantern that Penzance BID had commissioned last year especially for the event! The Big Dance Company and Bash Street Theatre will also be performing.

The parade ends at around 5.30pm outside Chapel Street Methodist Church where you can warm up with the Turk’s Head’s delicious, mulled wine!

If you can spare a couple of hours to assist with the parade, please email laura@penzancebid.co.uk

There will also be a Festive Market in Penzance on 16th December where you can browse a range of artisan stalls and Christmas entertainment and music in the town throughout the day. The market will take place at St John’s Hall from 10am until 5pm.
