Penzance Cricket Club pride themselves on providing a friendly and open environment for young cricketers to develop as players and young people. All sports, with cricket no exception, must be enjoyable and fun.
Their aim is that whilst developing their cricket skills and knowledge their young players will learn to experience the joy of being part of a team whilst enjoying personal achievements. Cricket has an enviable reputation for enabling long friendships, many starting from a young age. Of course, competition is important as long as the culture of courtesy and fair play are equally evident. In sport, as in life, treating others as we ourselves would like to be treated is so important and is constantly reinforced as the club’s young players learn the game. Penzance Cricket Club is privileged to have available three professional players with coaching awards; Ben Seabrook, Dylan Blignaut and Josh Croom, a former Director of Cricket as well as a number of volunteer staff. Daryl Pentecost is the manager of the youth section, taking care of all administrative duties. Dave Painter and Kim Pentecost are the safeguarding team. Each session is pre planned with a different aspect of the game covered each week, while simultaneously working on previous skills learned. Each player will develop at their own rate. Regular assessments are made so the coaches, players and parents can see their progress. All players and genders are welcomed between the ages of 8-18. No previous experience is required; beginners are welcome. They run sides at U11, U13 and U15 with players representing the senior club sides when they are ready. The facilities at Penzance are second to none with a full-time groundsman in post the young players have a wonderful surface on which to begin their cricket lives. Three artificial and one grass net provide excellent practice facilities along with friendly and helpful pavilion staff. Penzance Cricket Cub is an inclusive club and many of the youth players enjoy coming to the club on Saturdays to watch the senior teams of which a number of the players mentor members of the youth section.
